Red Knights NY 18 Seventh Annual "Benefit" Poker Run
We are asking you to assist us in our endeavor in offsetting mounting medical costs for a friend of yours and ours. James "Butch" Patrick is a friend of yours for many reasons but primarily due to the fact he is a firefighter in the Suffern Volunteer Hose Company for over 10 years. James is a dedicated husband of 25 years to his wife MaryAnn, a part-time employee at the Suffern Free Library. He is the loving and dedicated father of 3 wonderful children- Shawn, age 25, Valerie, age 23, and James, age 21. His two youngest children are attending college full time, and it is James' wish to not have his illness affect his children's education. James has also been a coach for Suffern Midget Mounties Football program and Suffern Little League for over 10 years. In 2008, James was diagnosed with Melanoma in his eye. After being informed that traditional chemotherapy is ineffective against Melanoma, a radiation patch was attached to the tumor in his eye. The patch was not effective and James underwent surgery to remove his eye at the Hospital for Special Surgery to ensure the Melanoma didn't spread. About six months after surgery, he was declared cancer-free. A few months ago, while undergoing a routine scan for cancer, doctors noted that his Melanoma had returned, and found a tumor in his lung and a spot on his shoulder. James immediately had surgery to remove the lower lobe of his left lung and began undergoing a battery of tests to further evaluate the spot on his shoulder. James' doctor recommended him to a Melanoma program out of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He recently began taking an experimental drug that has a 20% success rate in stopping the spread of the Melanoma. Since this drug is experimental, insurance will not pay for his treatments. However, this drug is James' only hope for survival.
As always, the Red Knights NY18 Motorcycle Club has jumped at the chance to help out a friend and firefighter in need. This is our “7th” Benefit Poker Run and over the years we have assisted friends and family in all circumstances and raised over $50,000. We are asking you, as a member of our community, to assist us in supporting Butch and his family. Please donate what you can to “Friends of James “Butch” Patrick c/o Red Knights NY18 MC, PO Box 793, West Nyack, NY 10994. Also please attend our Poker Run and enjoy a day out with the family.
